Studying in U.K.

The admissions procedure is tried and tested. Given below are some useful tips to keep in mind:
Academic Year : The academic year in Britain runs from late September/early October to June, usually with a month off at Christmas and Easter.

Application forms:
The Education Counselling Service of the British Council Division has it's own specially printed application forms, which are acceptable to the majority of UK institutions. Please use these forms and make sure that your contact details are clearly marked.

Admission tests: For some courses, like Management, overseas students must take the Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT). Other courses require Graduate Record Examination (GRE) or International English Language Testing Service (IELTS) scores. The British Council regularly administers the IELTS test.

For Management courses: Overseas students are often required to appear in the Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).
Work experience: A number of professional and vocational courses require relevant work experience. For instance, many MBAs or master’s courses in information studies require at least a couple of years' work experience. These courses are for mature students, where the average age is 25 years and above.

Academic records: Transcripts (official certificates) that set out previous academic qualifications are crucial for your application. If the originals are not in English, copies and a good English translation must be enclosed. If your under-graduate qualification or university is unknown to the admissions tutor, the British Council would be able to advise. Academic references are absolutely crucial to your application and need to be arranged as early as possible.

Money matters: While there are a small number of scholarships for post-graduates from India, most students have to pay for their studies. If the course is being sponsored by an employer, perhaps the best the prospective candidate can do is to communicate clearly to the sponsorthe dates and importance of application deadlines.

Start early: Provided everything is in order, that is, transcripts, references, English test results and GMAT or GRE scores as required, an early application will not only help to ensure a place, but will also give suitable candidates the time and opportunity to apply for available scholarships.

Immigration requirements : Student visas can be obtained from the offices of the British High Commission and the British Deputy High Commissions. Students need to prove that they have offer on a full time course, proof of accommodation, sufficient funds to cover the costs of funds to cover the cost of studying and living in Britain and that they intend to return home on completion of their course.
If you keep these tips in mind, you will be able to put in a good application.
