Kota Open University was established in 1987 to offer distant education programmes. It caters to the need of weaker section, women and employed people so that they can enhance their educational qualification. The university offers brilliant opportunities to house wives, students who could not complete their studies & to people living at places where there are no institutes for further studies.

Study :
In open universities, maximum credit for each course is fixed according to the time required to study the course in opinion of subject specialists. Normally 1 credit is equivalent to 30 hrs study including reading, understanding, answering modal questions and completing assignments.
Also, counseling sessions & discussions are held on weekends & holidays.
 

Courses Offered :

Bachelors degree in Arts or Commerce (B.A./B.COM.) :
Eligibility : Age 18 years or above
              Passed Senior Higher Secondary Exam (10+2) students who have not passed
              (10+2) are enrolled for a 6 months elementary course.

Bachelor of Journalism & Mass Communication (BJMC) :
Eligibility : Graduate from a recognised University.

Bachelor of Education B.Ed. :
Eligibility : 3 years experience in teaching OR Permanent Teacher in any recognised school
              in Rajasthan.
Duration : 2 years

Master of Education (M.Ed.) :
The course is offered only to teachers in Rajasthan.
Eligibility : 2 years Teaching experience in any recognised school and 50% marks in
              Bachelor of B.Ed. 
Duration : 2 years.

Master of Arts (M.A.) :
Eligibility : Graduate

Master of Journalism of Mass Communication (MJMC) :
Eligibility : Bachelor of Journalism & Mass Communication (BJMC) OR
              Bachelor of Journalism (BJ) OR
              Post graduate diploma in Journalism.
Duration : 2 years

Master of Business Administration (MBA) :
Duration : 3 years

Post Graduate Diploma in Human Resource Management (PGDHRM)
Duration : 1 year.

Post Graduate Diploma in Marketing Management (PGDMM)
Duration : 1 year.

Post Graduate Diploma in Financial Management (PGDFM)
 

Diploma Course in Culture & Tourism (DCCT) :
Eligibility : (10+2)

Diploma in Library Science (DLS) :
Duration : 1 year.
Eligibility : 21 years of age, passed (10+2) Senior Higher Secondary or Higher Secondary
              before 1989 plus 5 years of working experience in Library of any school or    
              university.
 
Diploma in Tourism & Hotel Management (DTHM) :
Duration : 1 year.
Eligibility : Graduate with 1 year experience in Management OR
              Undergraduate 21 years of age with 3 year experience in management.

Diploma in Nutrition & Health Education (DNHE) :
Duration : 1 year
Eligibility : Passed 10+2 Senior Higher Secondary.

Certificate in Food & Nutrition (CFN) :
Duration : 6 Months
Eligibility : Candidate should be able to read & write.

Diploma in Computer Operation (DCO) :
Duration : 1 year
Eligibility : Graduate or Undergraduate with 3 year working experience.

P.H.D.
Duration : 3 years
Eligibility : Graduate with minimum 50% marks.
